Cardiff owner Tan sets sights on Solskjaer

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has targeted former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Malky Mackay's replacement.

Solksjaer is currently in charge of Norwegian side Molde, where he has won two league titles and Norway's equivalent of the FA Cup, a record which has had him scouted by a number of Premier League clubs.

According to The Sun, a source close to Tan said: "Solskjaer is the manager Vincent has chosen. It's 90-95% on the way to being done."

The newspaper also claims Solskjaer will be handed £25 million in transfer funds to keep Cardiff in the Premier League.

Tan was reportedly angry with Mackay and his staff for overspending by £15m in a summer spending spree which saw the club break its transfer record on three occasions.

And when Mackay told the press last week he was going to ask for more money to spend in January, Tan reacted by telling the Scot to quit or be sacked - a threat which was lifted days later.

But speaking to The Sun, one of Tan's associates revealed it was on-field results - the last of which a 3-0 home defeat to Southampton - which ultimately resulted in Mackay losing his job.

The associate is quoted as saying: "They've only won four league games, won two of their last 12, and the goal difference is minus 15.

"The team are one point above the relegation zone and Mr Tan did not go into this to get relegated. It was time for a change."
