Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is not heading away from Anfield on loan, the club's assistant manager Colin Pascoe has confirmed.

Reports suggested Sterling, 19, would join Swansea for the rest of the season if Liverpool could complete a deal for Basel's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in Salah, although a deal is some way off and may have to wait until the summer.

But Pascoe, a former Swansea striker who was Rodgers' assistant at the Liberty Stadium, insists Sterling is not going to South Wales.

He said: "We just laughed at that, really. Raheem has been brilliant this season. He won't be going anywhere."

Rodgers is looking to strengthen a squad weakened by injuries to full-backs Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan, midfielder Joe Allen and striker Daniel Sturridge.

Enrique is out until February as he recovers from knee surgery, while Allen is recovering from a hip problem.

Flanagan, who missed the Christmas programme with a hamstring injury sustained during the 3-1 win over Cardiff on December 21, is getting close to a return, as is Sturridge, who has been out for a month with an ankle injury.

Pascoe said: "We'll be looking at different players and I'm sure there are targets, if we want or need them, to bring in. You get your targets, whatever you want, you go out and assess certain things - nothing changes.

"At any club, you will get injuries. Unfortunately for us, we had one or two close together, but all the targets we are looking for will still remain the same."
