Luis Suarez has a release clause of £70 million, which has been put in place if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Both the Daily Mail and The Mirror report that Suarez's advisers wanted a figure such as that to be in the new contract if Liverpool are unable to reach the top four to qualify for Europe's premier competition.

Previously, it had been reported that Suarez would cost other Premier League clubs £130m, with foreign clubs needing to pay £100m to land the Liverpool striker.

The reports say that Liverpool wanted the figure to be around £100m. Arsenal had two failed bids for Suarez during the summer, as they believed they had triggered a release clause by offering £1 over £40m.

Suarez has struck 20 goals in 16 appearances for Liverpool this season, and signed a new long-term contract at Anfield last month.
