Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has rubbished reports linking him with a move to Napoli this month.

There has been talk of Agger, 29, joining his former Reds boss Rafa Benitez at the Serie A club, with Liverpool currently possessing a number of options at centre-back.

However, Agger, who was made Liverpool's vice-captain last summer, insists he has no intention of leaving the club.

He told Danish publication Jyllands-Posten in quotes translated by Sky Sports: "I'm not thinking about moving at the moment, not at all. I've only seen what the papers say and I can't really do anything about it. There is no reason to believe these rumours."

Agger has been troubled by injury problems this season and picked up a calf strain against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday.

"It is what it is. I've been unlucky at the wrong times, but that's football," said Agger, who lost his place in the Liverpool team earlier this season after being sidelined. "When you have so many great players, then someone else will play when you are not at the top of your form."

Liverpool have enjoyed a strong first half of the season and are currently fourth in the Premier League table, six points off leaders Arsenal.

And Agger, who arrived at Anfield in 2006, feels Liverpool can keep up their good work and sustain their bid for the title.

"There is a much different atmosphere in the dressing room," he said. "It's like we truly believe that we are going to win and that is not something that we have done in the last couple of years.

"We are winning games, playing some great football and scoring a lot of goals. We've proven that we can challenge and then we have a guy up front [Luis Suarez] who scores goals from time to time."
