Nasri out for eight weeks

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed he is set to miss around eight weeks with the knee injury sustained during Sunday's 2-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Nasri suffered what manager Manuel Pellegrini described as a "serious knee injury" after a strong challenge from fellow France international Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa at St James' Park.

The 26-year-old had to be stretchered off, and there had been fears in France that his participation in the World Cup could be in doubt.

Following a scan on Monday, though, the player announced on Twitter that he is likely to return to action in March.

Nasri's father, Abdelhamid, told Le Parisien that Yanga-Mbiwa "did it nastily," adding: "The boy was beaten first time and did it with the second challenge. And it wasn't to try and get the ball back where he hit... It's just gratuitous nastiness."

Nasri has made 26 appearances for City this season, scoring five goals. If his estimate is correct he could miss up to 10 first team games, including the first leg of City's Champions League round of 16 match against Barcelona and the Manchester derby at the start of March.
