Pellegrini confident City can win quadruple
Manuel Pellegrini has vowed that Manchester City will do their utmost to achieve an unprecedented quadruple by winning all four competitions they are in this season.
The City boss accepts it will be very difficult to triumph in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup and the Champions League but believes his side are developing the winning mentality required.
Pellegrini's team are second in the league, one point behind Arsenal, and are set to reach the Capital One Cup final, having beaten West Ham 6-0 in the first leg of their semi-final.
But they face an FA Cup third-round replay against Blackburn on Wednesday and have been drawn against Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League, making it unlikely they will lift all four trophies.
Pellegrini said: "It's very difficult but we will try. It's important to have the mentality at least to try. During the season with injuries and the amount of games we have to play it's very difficult and that's why no-one's done it before.
"But you must have the mentality to at least try to do it and that's what we're trying to do at this moment. We're not thinking about winning the four competitions, we're just thinking about Blackburn in the FA Cup and then to try and win against Cardiff on Saturday because until the end of the season we are going to be with five or six teams fighting until the end and it will just be decided by one or two points."
Two English clubs have done a treble, including becoming European champions, with Liverpool also winning the old Division One and the League Cup in 1984 and Manchester United triumphing in the FA Cup and the Premier League in 1999.
