Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has confirmed Kenwyne Jones will not be involved in the club's Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Jones was fined two weeks' wages, around £80,000, by Stoke after texting Hughes to say he was unavailable to play against Liverpool last Sunday.

The 29-year-old's contract at the Britannia Stadium runs out at the end of the current season, while Hughes has admitted he spoke to the striker about the situation on Monday.

"Sometimes you make mistakes and on this occasion Kenwyne made a mistake," Hughes said. "He made a bad decision and maybe some time in the future he will recognise that.

"It's been well documented and what has been reported is what has happened. I'm disappointed with that. Kenwyne has been fined and we are where we are with that.

"We spoke on Monday, just to get an understanding of why it happened. We had that meeting and he has been in this building training. We're just getting on with it. He won't be involved this weekend, that's fair to say. Moving forward, we will have to see.

"Maybe people are telling him things, but we have had no contact from anybody in this window. Maybe the information isn't what it seems from outside.

"The window is open and all things happen in the window. We'll bide our time. It's unfortunate and none of us really saw it coming."
