New Southampton non-executive chairman Katharina Liebherr has confirmed the club will not sell any players during the January transfer window.

Liebherr was appointed to the role this week following the resignation of Nicola Cortese on Wednesday.

His departure had sparked rumours that Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino would also be leaving the club, only for the Argentine to confirm on Thursday that he intends to remain at St Mary's.

With an air of uncertainty surrounding the club, there has been plenty of speculation about the future of a number of Southampton players, with full-back Luke Shaw strongly linked with an exit this month.

However, keen to maintain stability at St Mary's, Liebherr met with Pochettino this week and has now stressed that nobody will be leaving the club in January.

"The club has no plans to sell any of the squad during the January transfer window. The manager and the team have my full support," she said in a statement on Southampton's official website.

Liebherr's pledge follows on from Pochettino's own statement regarding the future of his players, made during his news conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Sunderland.

"I want to make something very clear," Pochettino said on Thursday. "No-one is for sale at Southampton. No-one. My belief has not changed from a week ago. No player that I don't want to leave will leave this club."
