Carroll hopes to make England World Cup squad

Andy Carroll is aiming to put his injury woes behind him and revive his international career by making the England squad for the World Cup in Brazil.

The striker has been out of action for nearly eight months with a heel injury, and made his long-awaited return to the West Ham team as a substitute last weekend in the 2-0 victory over Cardiff.

And Carroll, who was with the England side under Roy Hodgson in Euro 2012, is hoping the manager selects him again to play at the World Cup in Brazil.

"The Euros were great. I was playing in one of the best competitions going and would love to do it again," Carroll told The Sun.

The return of Carroll is a huge boost for under-fire West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, with the team 17th in the Premier League and only out of the relegation zone by goal difference.

And Carroll also revealed he is happy to be playing his football at West Ham, and will do all he can to keep them in the Premier League.

"I don't feel any extra pressure when I hear the team needs me back. That's what I'm here for. I'm still happy I made the move here from Liverpool, I've never had any doubts," he said.

"There's a special vibe about this club. I absolutely love the place, the staff, players and the fans. We had a bad run but we got a good result at Cardiff and it's all positive from here.

"I signed a long contract when I joined last summer and intend to stay for many years. I think we can do well this season and I am very confident about the future," he added.
