Palace out the bottom three, Sunderland snatch draw

Jason Puncheon bounced back from his penalty woe from last week to notch the winner and give Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis a 1-0 win over his former club Stoke City and move the Eagles out of the relegation zone.

Puncheon, who put a spot-kick high and wide at Tottenham seven days ago, cut inside to finish neatly inside Jack Butland's near post.

The goal proved to be enough to move Pulis's side two points clear of West Ham in 18th.

Adam Johnson struck for the fourth time in a week as Sunderland staged an unlikely fight back to snatch a 2-2 Premier League draw against Southampton.

Newcastle United arrested a run of four straight defeats in all competitions as they heaped the pressure on West Ham manager Sam Allardyce with a 3-1 win at Upton Park.

Newcastle took the lead after 16 minutes when Yoan Gouffran found Yohan Cabaye, whose first touch took him away from Razvan Rat before beating Adrian for his sixth goal of the season.

Loic Remy made it two on 33 minutes when he expertly controlled Moussa Sissoko's deep cross before prodding in to an empty net.

West Ham were given a lifeline in first half injury time when an own goal from Michael Williamson halved the deficit, and Andy Carroll, back from a long-term foot injury, squandered a glorious chance to level matters with the goal at his mercy.

And it was Cabaye that ensured Alan Pardew's side returned to Tyneside with all three points when the Frenchman scored his second in the 95th minute.

Elsewhere, a late header from defender Ryan Bennett moved Norwich five points clear of the drop zone as the Canaries eventually saw off 10-man Hull at Carrow Road.

Tom Huddlestone saw red late on after picking up a second yellow card as Steve Bruce's side continue to struggle away from home.
