Moyes denies van Persie rift rumours

David Moyes has denied claims he has fallen out with talisman Robin van Persie as the Dutchman finally makes his long-awaited return from injury.

Van Persie has missed Manchester United's last 10 games with a thigh injury and his comeback has been postponed several times.

Moyes had hoped the former Arsenal captain would be back for the end of United's Christmas and New Year programme but he was still sidelined for Sunday's visit to Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old has now resumed training and reports claim United's physios have told Moyes that Van Persie is fit to play.

But after the enforced absence of his frontman Moyes has played down reports of a rift with the striker.

"It couldn't be further from the truth," he told national reporters. "I keep saying it is untrue but for some reason people don't want to write it or hear it.

"But it is the fact. Most people know that I talk pretty straight. If there was something wrong I would be the first one to come out and say it.

"I have a really good relationship with Robin, as I do with all the players. But when you are not winning, people look for reasons, and probably think I am not getting on with Robin."

Last week, Van Persie insisted Moyes is the right man to manage United and said the Scot needs to be given time to succeed at Old Trafford.

"I think he needs time like everyone, especially if you are new at such a big club. And to be fair, I don't think people don't understand that they have to give him a little bit more time, and I am talking about fans or even us," Van Persie said.

"He will get that time and everyone is convinced that we will change things sooner than later."
