Ardiles and Villa unhurt after Falklands crash

Tottenham legends Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa are 'fine' after they were involved in a car accident in the Falkland Islands while filming an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary.

According to Mercopress, five people were injured on Monday night and were flown to hospital by helicopter. The two former Tottenham stars - who starred for Argentina at the 1978 World Cup - are cult heroes at the club having won the FA Cup in 1981.

However they missed the success in 1982 because of the Falklands War - Ardiles left the club on loan, while Villa refused to play in the final.

Ardiles' son Pablo confirmed the pair were recovering well and are not in immediate danger following the accident.

"My understanding is he is fine," Pablo Ardiles told the BBC.

"He has 20 odd stitches in his head and my understanding is he has been hospitalised overnight. But he's fine.

"Ricky Villa and my brother were out there but they are OK and are back in the hotel.

"I don't know the exact details but I understand my dad was driving and that he lost control somehow. I've heard reports he swerved to avoid a sheep but I can't confirm that.

"The main thing is he is fine, they are all OK."

Ardiles' daughter Aimee also confirmed on Twitter that her father was recovering well.
