Pellegrini sweating on Negredo knock

Despite witnessing Manchester City cruise into the League Cup final, Manuel Pellegrini was left sweating on the fitness of in-form striker Alvaro Negredo after his side's semi-final win over West Ham.

Following their 6-0 first leg demolition over Sam Allardyce's side at the Etihad, City continued their rich goal-scoring form with a 3-0 victory at Upton Park to complete a record 9-0 aggregate win and advance to Wembley.

Negredo scored another double - coupled with his hat-trick in the first leg - but had to have treatment following a tough challenge from James Tomkins late on. The striker carried on, but Pellegrini revealed he would have to wait until Wednesday to determine the seriousness of the knock.

"Alvaro Negredo has a problem with his shoulder," Pellegrini told Sky Sports. "He just has a pain at the moment, and we will see hope it is tomorrow [Wednesday].

"It was a very professional performance. It was easy to think the game was finished from the 6-0 in the first leg, but it was important to reach the final winning all the games.

"For Sergio Aguero, it was useful match as he played 60 minutes. For him, it useful for the future. Wembley is always important. It was important the way we reached the final, winning every game."

For Allardyce, injuries to Joe Cole and Mohamed Diame - who was stretchered off during the closing minutes - rounded off another miserable night on which he heard his team being booed off by the Upton Park faithful.

"The most disappointing thing was our defensive unit doing what it did in the first few minutes," Allardyce said. "Manchester City are a super, super team but it was not a super, super opening goal.

"It was bog-standard defending, which was disappointing. You cannot do mistakes at this level to the amount we did them. The killer of all was the injuries to Joe Cole, who should not be out for so long, and Mo Diame, which looked really serious."
