'It's three weeks too late' - Blackpool chairman hits out at Ince

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has hit out at departed manager Paul Ince, saying that Ince's lack of preparation for the transfer window has left him with nothing to do for three weeks.

Ince was sacked on Tuesday less than 12 months after being appointed, with the club suffering nine defeats in their last 10 games and tension rising over Ince's influence on son and key midfielder Tom, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is now certain to leave, with Everton, Monaco and Swansea all linked.

Oyston told the Daily Mirror: "As we stand, it's three weeks too late now. We should have hit the floor running on January 1, all prepared. It's poor that we weren't in a position to do that. That's one of the main things we discussed.

"I won't get involved in the day-to-day football side and don't want to. I don't want to be deciding which players we bring in because, frankly, that's not my role.

"My role is to do deals to bring players to the club in a way which empowers the manager. I've not been given the opportunity to do that. It's a serious issue."

Former Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson has been appointed caretaker manager, and is bookies' favourite to land the role permanently.

Following the announcement of Ince's sacking, defender Ian Evatt took to Instagram to voice his opinion on the decision.
