Laurent Blanc has reaffirmed his interest in Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, revealing he remains a target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Cabaye, 28, joined Newcastle from Lille in 2011 and has gone on to thrive at St James' Park. He has been at the heart of the club's success this season and has subsequently seen his name linked to PSG.

With Cabaye understood to be interested in a move to the Parc des Princes, PSG manager Blanc confirmed his interest in the player following reports earlier in the month that the club were set to submit a bid in the region of £21 million.

"[Roma's Miralem] Pjanic could be a good alternative to Cabaye," Blanc said during his weekly press conference. "Their profiles are good and they are both targets for PSG."

That follows comments earlier in the week from Blanc in which he admitted he would be keen to add a midfielder to his squad following an injury to Adrien Rabiot.

Speaking to Canal+, Blanc said: "It would be good to recruit a player in the heart of the game, to have an extra player in midfield. We need a player who has the same mentality as the others when they are playing or on the bench.

"He must love to play. He must be technically good and be tough, and whether this player comes or does not come, there will be competition in all positions. I've been saying for a month and a half - and the injury to Adrien makes it more urgent - that we need an extra player in midfield."

Asked specifically about Cabaye, Blanc replied: "I ask myself. I know the man. He has that character, but there are others. We are very happy with this team, but with all the competitions in which we are engaged we must be aware there will be issues, as we have seen with Adrien Rabiot."
