Daniel Sturridge has issued an apology to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for his reaction to being substituted in the Merseyside derby victory over Everton on Tuesday night.

Sturridge scored twice against the club's city rivals in a 4-0 demolition, but missed a penalty and squandered another opportunity to seal his hat-trick. And following a minor disagreement with Luis Suarez for wasting a chance in front of goal, Rodgers immediately pulled Sturridge off on 71 minutes, and the striker questioned his manager over the decision.

But after the match, Sturridge admitted to the reason why he showed petulant over the substitution. "I want to apologise for my reaction after being substituted. I was disappointed about the penalty," he told BT Sport.

And later, Sturridge posted a picture on Twitter with his Man-of-the-Match award.
