Sergio Aguero hopes the hamstring injury he suffered during Manchester City's 5-1 victory over Tottenham is not as bad as first feared.

Aguero, who opened the scoring for his side as they climbed above Arsenal to move into top spot in the Premier League, came off before half-time after clutching his hamstring, and having recently returned from a calf problem which sidelined him for over a month, the striker took to Twitter to ease City's fears.

Meanwhile, manager Manuel Pellegrini told BT Sport after the game: "We will see tomorrow with the doctor what happened with Sergio. It's possible it was a consequence of him playing 90 minutes [against Watford in the FA Cup at the weekend].

"We hope we can recover him as soon as possible."

Skipper Vincent Kompany added: "It's bad news, of course, but we will have to see. We don't know how bad it is, but hopefully he'll be back very soon."
