Sherwood rules out signings for Spurs

Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has revealed that he has rejected constant offers from chairman Daniel Levy to sign new players in this transfer window.

Levy has been noted for revelling in last-gasp deadline day signings for Tottenham in recent years, but Sherwood has stressed he was not interesting in adding to a squad that he believes is already strong enough to secure Spurs a top four finish in the Premier League this season.

Even after Lewis Holtby's loan move to Fulham and a possible move for Etienne Capoue to an Italian club, Sherwood is convinced he has the strength in depth required to get through to the end of the season.

"There is a zero per cent chance of us signing anyone," stated Sherwood, before he humorously suggested that stance could change if a star name was to fall into Tottenham's radar in the final hour of the transfer window.

"Lionel Messi would be great wouldn't he, he'd be brilliant. Let's hope we can get him in the eleventh hour, but I don't think that's going to happen. We signed seven players in the summer, not a lot of others did that. So we are happy with that.

"It is very, very unlikely anyone comes in unless something dramatic happens. I'm happy with the squad, I'm happy with the numbers and if the window was shut now, I'd be very happy with this squad."

A relaxed Sherwood insisted there was 'no mileage' in reports linking Spurs with a late move for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, who looks set to seal a deadline day deal to Liverpool, as he stressed he has the final say on new arrivals at the club.

While Levy and sporting director Franco Baldini have a significant input into possible new signings at Tottenham, Sherwood insisted no player would be brought to the club without him giving a green light to the deal.

It has been reported that some of the seven fresh arrivals who arrived in the aftermath of Gareth Bale's world record move to Real Madrid were not sanctioned by boss Andre Villas-Boas, but Sherwood stressed such a scenario could not happen under his watch.

"We are all in this together," he said as he commented on the three-man transfer committee currently in place at Spurs. "We all talk about players together and unless we are all in agreement they won't come in, simple as that. There is no point in bringing players in who I don't sanction as they will end up not playing.

"This transfer window was relaxed for me. We have a lot of players at this football club. I've not changed my opinion because it is deadline day. I know the fans will want another ten signings but that is not the way to go about it.

"Just buying players and throwing them at a manager is not the way to go. It is a jigsaw and we need to put it together. I have confidence in this squad to take the club forward."
