Manchester United were not in the market for a deadline day addition to their squad, but remained busy throughout the day as a handful of youngsters were sent out on loan across the leagues.

Italian striker Federico Macheda is the best known of the group, departing for Birmingham until the end of the season after a brief spell at Doncaster earlier this season. Birmingham also welcomed two more United players, with defender Tom Thorpe and full-back Tyler Blackett also heading for St Andrew's.

Tom Lawrence has been loaned to Championship strugglers Yeovil, with striker Will Keane joining QPR and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone set for a four-week stint at Doncaster.

League One outift Carlisle made their fourth and fifth loan signings from United this season after bringing in striker Sam Byrne and Belgian midfielder Charni Ekangamene for the remainder of the campaign.
