The Premier League has finally recovered from a two-year slump and is equalling the standards of the Champions League, according to Gary Neville.

Neville claims the quality of play being witnessed this season is far higher than it was when his old club and Manchester City were crowned champions most recently.

He has taken the clashes between the league's biggest clubs, such as Chelsea's impressive win at Manchester City on Monday, as the benchmark and believes fans are seeing a return to the level achieved in 2011.

United won the title that season with Chelsea and City trailing in second and third and the strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez and Robin van Persie all scoring freely.

"Make no mistake," Neville said via his official Twitter account. "We are now seeing high quality Champions League-class performances again in our domestic league. We've had two years off.

"Big games in the Premier League for two years have been low quality. This season a return to heavyweight struggles and high quality, goalscoring performances."
