Beardsley replaces Donachie at Newcastle
Peter Beardsley has been appointed Newcastle United reserve team boss following the resignation of Willie Donachie, a source at the club has told ESPN.
Former England star Beardsley, who represented the Magpies in two separate spells as a player, takes on the role until the end of the season - having previously been working as the club's football development manager.
Donachie resigned from his post on Thursday following allegations he struck teenage defender Remie Streete after Monday night's 2-0 under-21s defeat at Sunderland.
A club statement on Thursday said: "Newcastle United can confirm that Willie Donachie has resigned from his position as reserve team manager with immediate effect. The club will be making no further comment."
Beardsley will be assisted by ex-Everton captain Dave Watson, who will combine the role with his position as under-18s boss. Watson recently led the under-18s his to the last-16 of the FA Youth Cup with an impressive 4-0 victory over local rivals Sunderland.
