ESPN FC: What's to come for Liverpool?


Roy Hodgson is to give Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling the chance to replace Theo Walcott in England's World Cup squad.

According to the Daily Mail, 19-year-old Sterling will be called up for Hodgson's squad to face Denmark at Wembley on March 5 - the first of England's four warm-up matches before flying to Brazil.

Sterling has been in impressive form for Liverpool this season, capped off by a two-goal, man of the match performance in the Reds' 5-1 destruction of Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

And it could not have come at a better time, with Gunners' forward Walcott out until the new season with a knee injury.

The paper also claims Sterling, who has one cap for England, has been concentrating on an intricate weight-training regime aimed at strengthening his slight 5'6" frame, while he has also banned himself from nights out in the three days prior to a match.

Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson, who has also impressed this season, will retain his place in the squad after being called up for the defeats to Chile and Germany in November.
