David Beckham has asked the wealthy Qatari owners of Paris Saint-Germain to help fund his new Major League Soccer franchise in Miami, according to Le Parisien.

Beckham, 38, brought the curtain down on his playing career after helping PSG win the Ligue 1 title last season, and has maintained close links with the club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Beckham's arrival in Paris would not have been possible without the resources of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), who have pumped more than €300 million into the PSG squad since taking over in the summer of 2011.

And now Beckham, who was last month invited to a PSG charity function, hopes QSI will join him and backers Marcelo Claure and Simon Fuller in helping re-establish football in Florida's main city.

"Yes, David Beckham has asked us for help," Le Parisien quotes a QSI source as saying. "No decision has been taken yet."

Beckham has exercised the option in an old contract to purchase an MLS expansion team, with the deal set to be finalised when he can secure a financing plan and location for a new stadium.
