Moyes defends 'top side' United

David Moyes is adamant Manchester United are still a top team, despite their slump.

United have won just three of their nine games in all competitions in 2014 and are only seventh in the Premier League, 15 points behind leaders Chelsea and with 21 fewer points than they had at this stage last season.

They travel to Arsenal on Wednesday as the underdogs but with manager Moyes in defiant mood and vowing to do whatever he can to inflict a second successive defeat on Arsene Wenger's side.

He said: "We are a top side and we'll do everything we can to get all the points."

Courtesy of a Robin van Persie goal, United beat Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford in November - their only league win against a team currently in the top nine - and Moyes believes they can earn a repeat.

"We got a good result against them at Old Trafford & we'll try for the same again," Moyes said. "We've played better in several games but in that one we got the goal and sometimes that makes a difference."

United drew 2-2 against bottom club Fulham on Sunday and Moyes insists his side have been unfortunate this season.

"We played well and in any other game you would have scored many goals," Moyes said. "We didn't get it on the day. Everybody keeps telling me about the stats and the opportunities we had so we had plenty of chances to win the game.

"We're doing the right things, we need to keep going and our luck will change, there's no doubt about that."

Moyes confirmed that United will go on a warm-weather break after the Arsenal game and that, contrary to a reports, Rio Ferdinand will be in the squad that travels abroad.

"I can only tell you that what was written was a load of rubbish, complete nonsense," Moyes said. "We'll have a few days away. We have a big Champions League game [against Olympiakos] coming up in just over a week's time."
