Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic's summer switch to Inter Milan is '90% done' according to the club's president Erick Thohir.

Vidic announced earlier this month that he would not be signing a contract extension at Old Trafford, and is now able to talk to other clubs about a free move at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

A host of top European sides have been linked with the United captain's signature, but Inter look to have emerged as favourites to poach Vidic from United.

"I can say that the deal is done at 90%," La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Thohir as telling journalists who were waiting for him at Milan Malpensa airport on Thursday.

"When everything is sealed, we will make an announcement. Don't let me say something that is not concrete yet."

Thohir also stated that the San Siro side are now "well balanced" following the arrival of Hernanes in January ahead of the Serie A run-in, as Inter sit fifth in the table after beating Sassuolo and Fiorentina.

"We have won twice in the last two games," he continued. "The team is good because they are well balanced.

"With [Walter] Samuel, the defence is tighter. Before Hernanes' arrival, there was only one attacking option, but now we can attack also in the middle and not only on the wings."

Inter are in the hunt for Champions League football next season, though they trail league leaders Juventus by 24 points after 24 games.
