Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool are a "Champions League level team" and belong in Europe's elite competition.

Liverpool, who have five European Cups to their name, have not featured in the Champions League for four seasons. They lie seven points off leaders Chelsea in fourth place, with 12 games to go in the Premier League.

"The club belongs in the Champions League," Rodgers said. "It is a competition that this club has a wonderful history in. It's a level that we want to get back to."

Rodgers' former club Swansea are next up for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. A dramatic 3-2 win at Fulham came on the back on a 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal at home earlier this month, a result and performance Rodgers believes proved Liverpool can match Arsene Wenger's side as well as title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City.

"I think we have shown in our performances that we are as good as any of them this season," he said. "We just need to do it over the next 12 games and prove it on the field.

"I would have confidence in saying that this Liverpool team is at Champions League level. Over the next 12 games, we will be prepared and ready to get maximum points. We have real confidence in our game and our play."
