FA on trail of Rooney coin throwers
The FA have confirmed they are looking into identifying the culprits who threw coins at Wayne Rooney in Manchester United's win at Crystal Palace and will push for banning orders to be issued to anyone found guilty.
Fresh from signing his headline-grabbing new £300,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford, Rooney endured foul abuse as he took a first-half corner and handed a coin which was thrown at him to officials.
The FA are compiling reports on the incident, including that of the referee and accounts from safety and security staff, along with CCTV footage.
Rooney went on to score a spectacular volley to secure the 2-0 victory, and his manager David Moyes said he will not have been fazed by the incident.
"I don't think it bothered Wayne at all," said Moyes. "I don't think that would be anything that would affect him.
"I'm sure all those people who were throwing coins at him will be cheering him on in three months' time at the World Cup."
