The wife of Michael Carrick has become embroiled in a row between her husband and former Manchester United player Roy Keane.

Lisa Carrick hit out on Twitter after Keane launched a scathing attack on his former side following their 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League.

Keane, working as a TV pundit, was also critical of Carrick following the midfielder's post-match interview with ITV, saying: "That interview was just like the performance: flat. He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency even in his interview."

In response, Lisa tweeted: "Roy Keane what a **** says anything to provoke a reaction .. That's all .. Done ..', before later removing the tweet and posting: "Deleted my tweet .. Emotions got the better of me .. Just disappointed."

Keane was also critical of the expectations put on United to progress beyond the last 16 of the Champions League, following 2-0 defeats for both Manchester City and Arsenal to Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively last week.

"We've been brainwashed by this 'Premier League is the best league in the world' [talk]," Keane said.

"Nonsense. It's the best brand, but we've seen over the past few weeks with a lot of the English teams struggling that these teams have fallen behind the top teams in Europe, and United in particular."
