'Moyes would have been sacked' in Italy, claims Vialli

Former Chelsea player and manager Gianluca Vialli believes David Moyes "would have been sacked" if he was managing a club in Italy.

Vialli, who was dismissed by Watford 12 years ago in his last managerial role, feels that the Manchester United boss would not be in a job now if he was in charge of a Serie A side.

"David Moyes, in Italy, would have been sacked three times now," Vialli told BBC Radio 4. "In Italy, managers are judged simply by results."

United are in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season, as they are sixth in the table and are 11 points off a qualification spot. Moyes has also seen his side crash out of the League and FA Cups, and are facing elimination from Europe following a 2-0 first leg loss to Olympiakos in the last 16.

United have been beaten 11 times this season, and Vialli insists Serie A fails to give managers time to recover.

"In the Premier League you get the feeling they give you a bit longer to sort out problems," he said.

"They are more understanding and, most importantly, owners of football clubs don't think they know more than managers. They let managers run it for a while and don't just sack you after the first two or three defeats."
