Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has indicated that Remy Cabella will be free to leave this summer - but has once again urged the attacking midfielder not to join Newcastle United.

Cabella, who has scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 this season, was linked with a move to St James' Park in January - only for Nicollin to say he "deserved something better".

And the outspoken 70-year-old has reiterated his stance against the Magpies.

Speaking on a radio show hosted by ex-French international Luis Fernandez, Nicollin was asked whether he was suggesting that Newcastle would not be a good destination for Cabella.

"Newcastle? They're good, aren't they?" he said sarcastically. "Don't make me laugh. In England, you should play at Arsenal or Chelsea or either of the Manchester teams at a push.

"We promised to let him leave. But I'll advise him not to leave for just anywhere."

When queried what he would do if Newcastle came in with a €20 million offer for Cabella in the morning.

"I think I wouldn't sell him," Nicollin replied."I'm capable of doing that.

"I wouldn't prevent him from leaving but he's not made for that. He must find a good French club [like] Monaco or PSG.

"Remember all the big players. First of all, they left their team, they went to a bigger French club and then they left [France] and had their career. Remy should do the same."

Montpellier did business in Newcastle in January 2013, when Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa moved to the North East - though Nicollin made it clear at the time that he was not happy with the defender's choice of destination.

He added: "For my dear Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Newcastle is not paradise."
