Sterling urged to stay fearless

Jordan Henderson has praised his "fearless" England and Liverpool team-mate Raheem Sterling and urged him to maintain his bravery until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old produced a man-of-the-match performance in a 1-0 friendly win for his country against Denmark on Wednesday.

Sterling had earned a recall to the England squad with some scintillating form in the Premier League, and his impressive showing in the Wembley victory has made him one of the favourites for a place in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Henderson said: "Raheem has been fantastic for us at Liverpool and he was again tonight.

"He was really positive and wanted to get on the ball all the time and get at players.

"Nothing fazes Raheem. He was outstanding and hopefully he can continue playing like that between now and the end of the season."

Sterling and Henderson were two of five Liverpool players who started the match - the final friendly before Hodgson names his provisional squad for the World Cup.

It was the first time in 37 years that Liverpool have provided five members of an England starting line-up.

"It shows you how well we have done this season," Henderson, whose team are second in the Premier League, said.

"We are all working really well together and linking up brilliantly. We have to try to bring that into the England set-up as much as we can."

Henderson, who has also been outstanding for Liverpool this season, is eager to get a call up in the summer too but insists his club form comes first.

"I'm playing with a lot of confidence and I'm loving playing football at the minute," he said.

"Things have been going well for Liverpool and to get another call up for England gave me a boost as well. Hopefully I can keep going for the rest of the season.

"It would mean everything to me to go to the World Cup and represent my country, but first and foremost I need to do a job for Liverpool. I'll give my all between now and the end of the season. If I do that then I will have a good chance."
