Arsenal were given a reminder of the tough task they face in the Champions League on Tuesday night after Bayern Munich smashed Wolfsburg 6-1.

The Gunners trail the reigning European champions 2-0 heading into their last 16 clash at the Allianz Arena, and Bayern warmed up for the clash after coming from behind to register a record 16th straight Bundesliga victory.

Naldo gave the Wolves the lead, but two goals apiece from Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic helped Bayern to another win. Xherdan Shaqiri scored the equaliser, and Franck Ribery was also on target as he marked his comeback with a goal in yet another demonstration of the strength of the champions elect.

Manchester City, however, can take encouragement from Barcelona's 1-0 defeat at Real Valladolid ahead of the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday.

Barcelona fell to a Fausto Rossi strike in the 17th minute as the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar squandered opportunities.
