Pepe Reina remains at loggerheads with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers over his future at Anfield.

The goalkeeper is on-loan at Napoli where he has been reunited with Rafael Benitez - and Rodgers said last month that Reina had "made it very clear he was looking to move" and had "penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager he had ever worked with."

But Reina denies that he has made up his mind to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis in the summer.

  • Jose Mourinho has protested too much and Brendan Rodgers hasn't been much better. But the words of the Chelsea and Liverpool managers have more than a hint of weasel, writes Alex Perry.

"That is what the manager says, apparently, but I have two years left on my contract," Reina told BBC Sport. "Liverpool got another goalkeeper [Simon Mignolet] and they told me they were happy to loan me for a season.

"It was strange but I don't regret it. The only thing about the letter is that I just could say goodbye in a different way and I couldn't do it [in person].

"There are always up and downs in a career and in the last two-and-a-half years at Liverpool there were different methods and perhaps I didn't do as good as I used to with Rafa."

Meanwhile, Benitez hinted that he is keen to keep Reina - who has been linked with a return to Barcelona to replace the outgoing Victor Valdes - at Napoli.

"He reads the game very well and is one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he said.

"Will he stay at Napoli? He has a clause and we know it. In the meantime he should continue to do well until the end of the season."
