Stoke left disappointed after Walters appeal rejected

Stoke City have issued their disappointment at the FA's decision to reject the red card given to Jonathan Walters in Saturday's clash with Norwich, claiming it supports a "lack of consistency."

Walters had a mixed afternoon at Carrow Road, scoring the Potters' 73rd-minute equaliser from the penalty spot during the 1-1 draw before being sent off just five minutes later for a challenge on Alex Tettey.

The FA announced on its official website that the appeal had not been successful, but Stoke responded by claiming they had been treated unfairly while other Premier League teams had been let off.

"The club gave careful consideration to whether or not to appeal Jon's sending-off but we felt compelled to do so in the interest of consistency after three incidents of a more serious nature in the Premier League last weekend failed to result in red cards," Stoke released in a club statement.

"We are disappointed with the lack of consistency that this decision seemingly supports."

Walters will sit out the Premier League games against West Ham, Aston Villa and Hull as his three-match suspension starts with immediate effect.
