Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is set to miss the next six weeks of the season, following a hamstring injury sustained in their Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich

Mikel Arteta has called on Arsenal to forget about their Champions League heartbreak and focus on ending the club's nine-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup.

Arsenal were knocked out of Europe despite a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, beaten in the tie 3-1 on aggregate.

  • Arsenal fear Mesut Ozil's hamstring injury could rule him out for up to six weeks.
  • The playmaker had to go off at half-time in Tuesday's clash against Bayern Munich and was undergoing tests at a London hospital on Wednesday night.
  • Initial indications were that Ozil would miss four to six weeks and he has already been ruled out of Sunday's north London derby against Tottenham.
  • He is also a doubt for the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan on April 12 but scan results should provide a clearer picture on Thursday.

The title prospects for Arsene Wenger's side have faded slightly as, despite a game in hand, they have a seven-point gap to make up if they are to catch Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Arsenal's title campaign may be decided in the next four games as they head to Tottenham on Sunday before a trip to Stamford Bridge on March 22, with Manchester City at Emirates Stadium and Everton at Goodison Park to follow.

Their FA Cup semi-final meeting with Wigan at Wembley.takes place after that testing run on April 12 and, having not won silverware since Patrick Vieira lifted the trophy in 2005, Arteta has one eye on what looks like the easiest route to success.

"I think it would be a turning point for the club, because [for] such a long time we don't win anything," Arteta, aware that victory against Wigan would bring a final against Hull or Sheffield United, said.

"It gives you a lift, gives you belief that you can start to go in the right direction and hopefully we can do it.

"We have a great chance, [but] there is still a month to go and some really tough games coming up.

"That is why it is important to get some momentum for that moment and get there with the belief and in good form.

"We have to recover, we have two massive games away from home. Tottenham and Chelsea. We will get the legs back [now], focus and take positives and try to get a good run.

"We have two competitions that we are still in. We want to fight for the league, for sure, and we have a great chance in the FA Cup as well.

"We need to make the most of it because I think we can do something good."
