Manchester City fear another Sergio Aguero injury setback after the striker was forced off at half-time of their Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday.

Aguero, 25, started against the Catalans in what was only his third appearance since returning from a hamstring problem.

But there is now a fear he may have aggravated that injury after being withdrawn at the interval at the Nou Camp, complaining of a tightening in the muscle.

"It's very early to say, so we cannot yet say how long he [Aguero] is going to be out," City assistant manager Ruben Cousillas said. "He felt some kind of pain in his muscle.

"We are doing some tests to assess it. It will be up to the medical staff who determine the extent of the injury, so we cannot speculate about this."

Despite a spirited display, City lost 2-1 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate as Barcelona progressed to the quarter finals at their expense.

Manuel Pellegrini's side, who had claimed they could win four trophies this season, now have just the Premier League to focus on.

They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wigan on Sunday and need to claw back a nine-point gap between to leaders Chelsea to be in with a chance of winning the title.

Aguero played a key role in City's last Premier League title triumph in 2011-12 and to losing him to injury again would be a major blow.

The Argentina international will undergo tests in Manchester on Thursday.
