'Cantona arrested for London assault'
Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona has reportedly been arrested for assault after an incident in London on Wednesday.
Cantona, 47, was said to have been taken into custody by police and cautioned following the lunchtime altercation in Primrose Hill. It is not known whether the victim, who did not require medical assistance, will press charges.
A Metropolitan Police statement read: "Police were called to Regents Park Road, NW1, at 12.55pm on Wednesday 12th March, following reports of an assault.
"Officers from Camden Borough attended and a man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of common assault.
"He was taken into custody and subsequently cautioned for common assault. The victim, a man, did not require medical assistance at the scene."
Cantona was convicted of assaulting Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons after infamously aiming a kung fu kick at him in a 1-1 draw with United at Selhurst Park in January 1995.
His initial two-week prison sentence was eventually reduced to 120 hours of community service, with Cantona banned for eight months and fined £10,000 by the FA.
