The FA has charged Hull winger George Boyd with spitting at Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Boyd, 28, clashed with Hart in the second-half of City's 2-0 Premier League victory over the Tigers when he appealed for a penalty after claiming to have been fouled by Hart.

There followed a coming together which saw Hart booked, although he escaped sanction from the FA.

A statement from the FA confirms that Boyd's alleged actions were not seen by match officials but were caught on camera.

However, Hart confirmed to City officials after the game that he did not believe Boyd had spat at him, while Hull boss Steve Bruce defended his player.

He said: "No, that's a load of rubbish. He's tried to talk and something has come out. That's what I've seen. George Boyd wouldn't do that, definitely wouldn't do that. No chance."

The player has until 6pm on March 19 to respond to the charge.
