Evra refuses to discuss future

Patrice Evra has cast aside talk about his future and vowed to do everything possible to make sure Wednesday's game against Olympiakos is not his final Champions League match for Manchester United.

The left-back is out of contract in the summer and may leave Old Trafford after an eight-year stay at the club.

• Patrice Evra will draw on his memories of France's comeback victory against Ukraine as he hopes Manchester United can stage a similar great escape against Olympiakos.
• The left-back was part of the French side who lost 2-0 to Ukraine in the first leg of November's play-off but who recovered to win the second meeting 3-0 and qualify for the World Cup.
• Now he will line up in the United defence as David Moyes' team, who lost 2-0 in Greece three weeks ago, seek to overturn the same deficit and earn a place in the last eight of the Champions League.
• He said: "We just let the storm pass. It was a difficult day after the game because we didn't expect to play as we played but after two days everyone was focused on the same goal. We stick together, we didn't listen to what people are saying. We just played for all the people who love us: all our family, the fans."

United trail Greek champions Olympiakos 2-0 after February's first leg, leading even the ultra-positive Evra to admit he cannot guarantee progress.

But he promised to give the United crowd something to shout about as David Moyes' team attempt to reach the quarter-finals of a competition he won in 2008.

"It is not a good day to talk about my future because the most important thing is Manchester United's future, not mine. When I put on a Manchester United shirt, I will give everything, no matter what my future is," Evra said.

"I am not going to tell you we are going to qualify but I promise we are going to fight and the fans will be proud of us after the game."

Evra, who has won five league titles in his time at United, admits this has been a tough year but said he and his colleagues need to show their character after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

"It has been a difficult season for everyone. We are not used to losing games but everyone fight for this club, everyone loves this club," he added.

"It is a difficult moment, a new challenge and we have not been in this situation before. We were always playing to win the league, to win the Champions League, but you have to show your character and your personality.

"This year has been more difficult than a year ago but I am still confident and really excited to play the game [against Olympiakos]. We don't want to think about Sunday: it is gone, the past is the past. Now the game [on Wednesday] is the most important thing."
