Oxlade-Chamberlain tells referee: It was me
Referee Andre Marriner sent off the wrong man during Arsenal's 1000th game under Arsene Wenger - and was even told by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: "It was me!"
The controversial incident happened after 15 minutes of the Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with the hosts already leading 2-0. A shot from Eden Hazard was swerving wide when Oxlade-Chamberlain stuck his hand out and deflected it further past the post.
A penalty was eventually awarded to Chelsea before referee Marriner sent off Kieran Gibbs. The decision was met with astonishment by Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who could clearly be seen in television pictures approaching the referee to tell him he had made the wrong decision, which Marriner admitted to when spoken to by BBC Radio 5 Live at half-time:
