The FA has requested television footage to establish whether Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini spat at Pablo Zabaleta during the 3-0 defeat to rivals City on Tuesday.
Fellaini was booked midway through the first half when he appeared to throw an elbow at Zabaleta - leaving the Argentinean writhing in agony on the Old Trafford pitch.
But footage has surfaced on the internet shows Fellaini standing over Zabaleta following the collision before spitting on his opponent.
The FA feels the video offers insufficient evidence to charge the Belgian and has asked if there are any clearer images.
Last week, Hull's George Boyd was banned for three games after being found guilty of spitting at City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
