Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the pressure to win the Premier League title is on Chelsea and Manchester City

Steven Gerrard has admitted he is daring to believe that Liverpool can win their first league title since 1990.

The closest Liverpool have come to winning the Premier League during Gerrard's time at Anfield have been their second-place finishes in 2002 and 2009.

Now the Liverpool captain says he's learned to be wary of getting carried away.

"I try not to, but don't get me wrong, [winning the title has] flashed in and out of the mind from time to time," Gerrard told national newspapers.

"With experience I have learned this can be a ruthless league, and one bad performance or one bad error could lead to a draw or a defeat.

"We are in a title race. We can't get away from that, we can't deny that as it would just be stupid but from experience I would never get carried away.

"We have to remain focused and just think about the next game. The message is that we have won nothing yet.

"The games are coming thick and fast and there's no time to think, which is a good thing really.

"When you have too much time to think, that's when your mind starts wondering 'what if, what if...'"

Gerrard has won the FA Cup twice, the League Cup three times, the UEFA Cup in 2001 and the Champions League in 2005, but the Premier League has always eluded him.

With fellow title contenders Chelsea and Manchester City dropping points on Saturday, Liverpool moved into first place with a convincing 4-0 win against Tottenham on Sunday at Anfield.

"It's a cup final mentality, and we have [six] to go. We have to go and try win them all."
