Rooney apologises for outburst

England striker Wayne Rooney has apologised for his rant against the fans that booed his team off the pitch following a drab 0-0 draw against Group C rivals Algeria on Friday.
Rooney, who had a disappointing match, was clearly furious with the fans' reaction, saying into a camera at the final whistle: "Nice to hear your own fans booing you - that's loyal supporters."
The England striker was roundly criticised for taking out his frustration on fans that had travelled thousands of miles and paid thousands of pounds to follow the national team and he has now apologised for his heat-of-the-moment reaction.
"I said things in the heat of the moment out of frustration of our performance and the result," he said in a Football Association statement. "For my part I apologise for any offence caused by my actions."
