Don't fall for Bayern's diving antics, Moyes warns referee

David Moyes says he will have to trust referee Carlos Carballo to make the right calls on diving after Bayern Munich were accused of going to ground too easily.

Manchester United face the holders in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final at Old Trafford on Tuesday and, despite his reluctance to name individual players, manager Moyes is wary of his opponents' reputation.

Arjen Robben has been identified as the main culprit and was branded a "very good diver" by Arsene Wenger after Bayern knocked Arsenal out of the competition in the last round.

United have endured numerous debatable decisions in Europe in recent seasons, most notably Nani's controversial sending off against Real Madrid last year and Rafael's dismissal against Bayern in 2010.

But Moyes has backed Carballo to get things right.

"We trust the referees to make the right decisions," Moyes said. "Diving is one of the hardest things for referees to get right. I would have retrospective cards but I wouldn't want to comment on individual players."

Moyes was equally as coy when asked about his interest in Bayern midfielder and long-term target Toni Kroos, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2015.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reportedly said "Kroos is sure to play in a Bayern Munich shirt next year as well" before boarding a plane to Manchester on Monday, but the 24-year-old is thought to be top of Moyes' shopping list as part of a planned £200 million overhaul of his under-achieving squad.

However, ahead of the European, World and Bundesliga champions' trip to Manchester, the Scot refused to comment on his pursuit of Kroos.

"Bayern Munich have a lot of good players, not just Toni Kroos," Moyes said. "I would never talk about any player at another club and Toni Kroos is a Bayern Munich player."
