Cavani told he's staying put

Edinson Cavani has been told he will not be allowed to leave PSG this summer despite voicing his frustration at the way he is being used by the team.

The £55 million-striker only signed for the French club from Napoli last summer and has made a significant impact for the side, but he is unhappy to be playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani interests Chelsea, for whom manager Jose Mourinho is seeking a fresh strikeforce, and has expressed a liking for the Premier League.

But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: "Cavani is very important for us. He is very professional, very committed on the pitch, he gives everything. I like him a lot.

"If he wants to change position, that's not his decision, it's that of the coach and he understands that," he added on RMC radio. "He's here to play where the coach decides to put him.

"He can talk with the staff and the club, but the decision will be that he stays with us. He's a star for the club. Of course he's staying."

Cavani, 27, is unhappy at having to play out wide and take on more defensive responsibility than he is used to.

A hamstring injury sustained by Ibrahimovic in PSG's 3-1 first-leg victory against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter finals on Wednesday may give him the chance in the central role that he craves.

However, despite this chance and the Ligue 1 champions' hard-line stance, Cavani maintains talks with coach Laurent Blanc will take place.

"Things are clear," Cavani, who signed a five-year contract with PSG last summer, told Tuttosport. "The club knows everything and we'll certainly speak about it at the end of the season.

"Right now I'm not thinking about all that. I'm only thinking about playing, finishing the season well, doing my best and we'll see about next season."
