Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed the key to the club's success this season is down to the players "working hard for each other" and "sticking together".

Brendan Rodgers' side will reclaim top spot in the Premier League from Chelsea if they avoid defeat at West Ham on Sunday as they look to end the campaign with a first league title in 24 years.

Liverpool have won eight games in succession as they trail league-leaders Chelsea by a point, and Gerrard says his side will only be gunning for victory when they make the trip to Upton Park and will not be concentrating on any of their title rivals after both Chelsea and Manchester City secured victories on Saturday.

"We need to keep doing what we're doing. Nothing changes. We don't worry about Manchester City or Chelsea or Crystal Palace or Newcastle - we worry about West Ham," Gerrard told the club's official website.

Liverpool demolished Tottenham 4-0 last Sunday to return to the Premier League summit for the first time since Christmas, and Gerrard says if the team maintain their momentum they can end the club's long wait for a league triumph.

"We need to approach it in exactly the same manner we have approached the last eight games. We've had an unbelievable mentality and a winning attitude," he said.

"We always know that if we work hard for each other and if we do the ugly bits that players don't like doing all the time, we know the nice stuff will come out.

"That's exactly what's been happening. We've been pressing really high, playing with a high tempo, playing at a pace which is difficult for opposition teams to cope with. But it all starts with sticking together and working hard for each other."
