Hernandez wants more playing time

Javier Hernandez wants more playing time with Manchester United so he can prove to Mexico he is ready for the World Cup in the summer.

The striker has shown his sharpness in front of in the absence of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney in his club's last two games but has only made five starts for them this season.

He was on the scoresheet for the second successive Premier League game - a 4-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday but it was his first full match since December.

"I'm happy, I played for 90 minutes and it's a long time since I started a game, " Hernandez told MUTV. "The World Cup is coming so I need time to prove, whether they give me one minute or 90, that I'm ready and that I want to contribute to the team to help us have a better season."

As Moyes waits on Rooney's fitness ahead of United's Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich, Hernandez said he was hopeful of his own chances to be included.

"We're all ready to play, and that performance showed that we are going to make difficult choices for the manager for that next game," he said.

"It's been a very hard season for me, but I'm trying to be very patient, and to work to try to speak on the pitch. I have nine goals at the moment, so I'll keep working, be patient and speak on the pitch like I always do."
