Do Manchester United have a chance at the Allianz Arena?

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United can shock holders Bayern Munich to take their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

United gave themselves hope with a 1-1 draw in last week's first leg at Old Trafford and Rooney has called on his side to emulate Chelsea's shock triumph of 2012.

"Everyone has their favourites every year - the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich - but it does not always happen," said Rooney.

"When Chelsea won it they nearly went out of the competition three times. We believe we can go through. We have good enough players."

Chelsea, who again overcame the odds last night to turn around a 3-1 first-leg deficit and see off Paris Saint-Germain, battled past Barcelona to then beat Bayern on penalties in the 2012 final at the Allianz Arena, where United head tonight.

Bayern lost 3-2 to Manchester City at their own ground earlier this season and drew 1-1 with Arsenal, having lost 2-0 there to Arsene Wenger's side last season.

Rooney, who will have a pain-killing jab after chipping a bone in his foot in the first leg, added: "It will be tough. Bayern and Barcelona are the two best teams left in the competition.

"We are ready. It's an exciting game for us all - the players and the fans - and it's a massive game to be involved in."
