Arsenal legend David Seaman has told the club that ending their nine-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup is more important than securing a Champions League place.

Everton are just a point behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League with a game in hand, after beating Arsene Wenger's side 3-0 at Goodison Park last weekend.

But in an interview with the Daily Mirror, Seaman, who lifted the FA Cup four times, says Arsenal need to focus on beating Wigan in Saturday's semi-final and then seeing off either Hull or Sheffield United in the final rather than their scrap with Everton.

Should Wenger take the blame?

  • Arsenal may still be in the running for the most significant trophies if they hadn't choked away from home in the biggest games.
  • Thrashings at Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have left serious questions marks over the approach of manager Arsene Wenger and left the campaign with a feeling of failure.

"I would take winning the FA Cup over finishing top four," said Seaman.

"It's a great achievement [qualifying for the Champions League], but we want to win something and the FA Cup would be great.

"For Arsenal to win a trophy has been massive for the past eight years. The pressure has been building and everyone has been on the bandwagon of 'You've not won anything.'

"I'm just so desperate for them to win the FA Cup. Win the FA Cup and finish top four then I think everyone will be happy at Arsenal.

"But the pressure is building and it gets harder and harder. It's just so frustrating. The Emirates is dying for a trophy.

"The FA Cup is still really prestigious. I've won it four times, lost the final once, I will never forget the cup final days and even the third round days when you see non-league opponents in there."
