England boss Fabio Capello has confirmed Matthew Upson will replace the suspended Jamie Carragher and indicated more changes will be made for England's vital World Cup Group C game with Slovenia.

Carragher picked up his second caution in as many games in the draw with Algeria on Friday, ruling him out of the clash with Slovenia.

With Ledley King's groin injury ruling the Tottenham man out of the game, Capello had the choice of selecting Upson or Michael Dawson.

Upson was a regular during qualifying and Capello feels the understanding he forged with John Terry tipped the balance in the West Ham man's favour.

"Upson will play because he always played with John Terry and I probably will change some others," Capello told the BBC.
